The publishing world took a collective breath as mega-author J.K. Rowling announced she will be self-publishing her Harry Potter Series. It seems when she first signed with the print publisher, Scholastic, e-pub rights were not not included. It has been reported that she will be sharing a percentage of the e-sales with Scholastic, although most of the profit will go to the author. Rowling has created her own independent e-publishing platform — Harry Potter and

This move could just change the entire playing field in the publishing industry.
