The prolific and multi-talented author, Anne Rice has had dozens of bestsellers, books made into movies and a television mini-series, now her books will be coming to life as graphic novels. Coming in the fall of 2012, Yen Press will be releasing Interview with a Vampire, Ms. Rice’s first book in her Vampire Chronicles series. Although the original plot of the book will remain intact, it will have a new narrator – Claudia – a child who was turned into a vampire by Louis. Fans will recall that Louis was the original narrator. Interview with a Vampire was first published in 1976 and was Ms. Rice’s first bestseller. It was also made into a motion picture starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
Yen Press, an imprint of Hachette will be the publisher. They are also the publisher of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight that was a bestselling graphic novel in 2010.
Ashley Marie Witter has been contracted as the illustrator. Ms. Witter has drawn numerous webcomics and several other small projects, but this will be her first featured graphic novel. Although she is a fairly new illustrator, her drawings are perfect in the eyes of Anne Rice. “I am looking at the drawings, they have such wonderful detail in the costumes, and in my work costumes are almost like a character, they are part of the work, and they got that. What I look for in a movie or a book like this is the essence-baroque detail, sensuality, luxurious hair, faces that are intriguing and deep – and they got it here.”
Servant of the Bones, another of Rice’s works, will be making an appearance as single-issue comics, published by IDW. Look for those works to hit book retailers in 2012.
