The Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Simple Touch GlowLight are being released in the United Kingdom. This is a market dominated by Amazon’s Kindle.

Barnes & Noble is introducing it’s latest entry into the eReader world in the U.K. Launching in October, the Nook Simple Touch GlowLight won’t be available in the U.S. anytime soon. Launching the back-lit reader in the U.K before Amazon introduces it’s newest eReader the Kindle Paperwhite is a marketing boon for Barnes & Noble, who has lagged behind Amazon in eReader sales.

The Nook GlowLight will feature a 6-inch touchscreen, 800 Mhz single-core processor, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 2Gb internal storage and a microSD card slot. It’s biggest selling feature however is it’s “GlowLight” technology that will light up the entire reading screen.

Barnes & Noble’s Nook GlowLight will cost the same as Kindle’s Touch – approximately $149 U.S. and the Touch does not have the back-lighting for easier reading.

Amazon is already a recognized brand in the U.K., so even though Barnes & Noble beat them to the market with the Nook GlowLight, they will still have an uphill advertising battle to get their name known to the British consumer.
