In a recent study by VIDA Women in Literary Arts organization, men outnumber women as both authors and reviewers in prestigious literary journals.
Male authors were reviewed sometimes 2-to-1 in many journals — New York Reviews, New Republic, London Review and Harper’s Review among them. The study reviewed major review sites over the last three years. While some publications, such as The Boston Review have made significant steps in equalizing their reviews, most have not.
