A Museum Dedicated to Science Fiction

0

Attention Science Fiction fans, there is a new museum coming dedicated to all those incredible books, movies, characters and other warp drives of the imagination.

The MSF – Museum of Science Fiction is — “The Museum of Science Fiction will be the world’s first dedicated, comprehensive science fiction museum, covering the history of the genre across the arts and providing a narrative on its relationship to the real world.”

Greg Viggian, executive director, Phil Smith chief curator, David Hart director of project management, and Mandy Sweeney VP of museum operations is the team behind the museum. The MSF will be “the center of gravity where art and science are powered by imagination.”

While the museum is still in it’s planning stage, there is a website with details of the museum, a blog, details on the progress of the museum, and links to their Indiegogo campaign where they are using crowd-sourcing to raise funds for the project. They have some really great items available to those who donate, such as signed books, Awesome Con tickets, and the opportunity to be a character in a David Brin book. They hope to open a “preview museum” in 2015, with the opening of the 300,000 museum in Washington, D.C. scheduled for 2017.

The ‘preview museum’ displays will include an 11-foot Starship Enterprise-E filming prop and a Doctor Who TARDIS police box.
