Amazon Issues Warnings to Authors Over Content Issues

Many authors and their publishers have been receiving warnings from publishing giant Amazon over the last week. The company has just unveiled a new algorithm which finds typos, formatting issues and quality control problems. While this might be a good thing for readers and authors, it doesn’t seem to address those books with regional dialects, or science fiction/fantasy works where world building and word creation are the norm.

Content published through Kindle Direct Publishing is held to the high standards customers have come to expect from Amazon. If readers tell us about a problem they’ve found in your book, we will make sure you know about it and point you in the right direction to get the problem fixed.

A recent article on The Good Ereader suggests sci-fi/fantasy authors: “I recommend updating your title via Kindle Direct Publishing and implement a lexicon. This is a a page or two at the beginning of the novel that provides a rundown of the words and their meaning. This will insure the book is not reported for spelling mistakes and if they are, you have a point of reference to show the Amazon rep when they contact you.”
