alaBestselling author James Patterson has been named the The American Association of School Librarians 2016 Crystal Apple winner. The Crystal Apple is awarded annually to an “individual or group who has devoted significant effort in advocating for school library programs.

James Patterson, had written books for a wide audience, adult, young adult and children. Literacy and reading two very important efforts the authors supports not only with his time by with monetary giving. In 2015, he donated $1.75 million in grants to 467 schools, and just announced he will give and $1.75 million to school libraries for 2016.

My aim in supporting school libraries is simple. I want to make books available to all kids, in every neighborhood across the country. And once we get kids reading, my hope is that we’ll turn them into lifelong readers. Supporting libraries, which are the heart of every school, is a great place to start,” said Patterson in a press release.
