Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity / Instagram Accepting Entries

cannesFor those who love Instagram and video, The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is looking for your work. The theme for this year’s contest is The Water in Motion.

Videos from 3 – 60 seconds in length and ‘focused on water’,  are the focus of this year’s contest. Ten finalists will be selected from all entries and the winners will receive a Canon EOS80D camera/video recorder.

Here are additional details from their press release:

This June, some of the most talented people in the business will come together to celebrate creativity at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In honor of the event, we’re hosting a Water in Motion contest to kick-off the celebration for agencies around the globe. Similar to Weekend Hashtag Projects, where there’s a specific challenge and theme, our contest centers around video and this year’s Instagram theme at Cannes—Water.

“I love having a creative challenge running alongside an award celebration,” says Andrew Keller, Global Creative Director, Creative Shop for Instagram and Facebook. “It gives our creative community the opportunity to let its hair down without restrictions.”

The Brief

Water is an inconsistent constant. A liquid. A solid. A gas. It ebbs and it flows. It steams and showers. Even breeds life and takes it away. In any of its intricate forms, what does water mean to you?

Get your agency together and show us your interpretation of water with a video on Instagram for a chance to be featured at the 2016 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The top 10 finalists will be featured at the Instagram Water Exhibit and the three winning videos will receive the grand prize—a Canon EOS 80D camera that captures full HD video.

The Details

To enter, upload a :03-:60 second video of your interpretation using #WaterInMotion and #InstagramCannesContest. All videos must be shared and tagged by 1PM PDT on Friday June 10, 2016.

Please review the contest rules before participating.

The Execution

This year’s contest is all about video. From animation and live action, to cinemagraphs and stop-motion, anything video goes.

Here are a few video tips to help your creative team get started:

  • Use apps like Boomerang or Hyperlapse to tell a story in a unique way
  • Use Instagram’s new multi-clip function to create a video out of multiple clips from your camera roll*
  • If your video includes sound, make sure the message comes through even if viewed on silent. Add subtitles if necessary.
  • When uploading, choose a captivating video thumbnail image and title to grab attention right away

Remember, all entries are due by 1PM PDT on Friday June 10, 2016. We’re excited to see how agencies and creative communities around the world bring this challenge to life.
