Publisher Penguin Random House is giving subway riders a new reason to miss the next stop, and “in-transit reading experience.” They are releasing a new series of short digital stores called Subway Reads New York. Initially, they are releasing five short stories and excerpts from another 175 books that subway passengers can read. All the stories will be set in New York and many were authored by New Yorkers.

The selected stories take from 5 – 30 minutes to read and includes works from multiple genres, new authors and well known authors such as Lee Child, Lisa Gardener and Harlan Coben.

Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House said in a statement: “For millions of New Yorkers, having a few minutes to get lost in a great book is one of the true pleasures of riding the subway. This fun promotion provides commuters with a new twist on that classic – and classically New York – pastime, with great short fiction, and the chance to access extensive samples of some of the very best, and most entertaining books in the world.”
