Bestselling author James Patterson and social media giant Facebook have joined forces to create an “Immersive reading experience.” The Chef, a novel written by Patterson features a plethora of ‘multimedia features,” such as “film clips, photos and audio segments.” These digital features are ’embedded’ in the story and are meant as an enhancement the reading experience.

Patterson in an interview regarding partnering with Facebook that they“could move publishing in a new direction” and “we’ll learn some things,” as they go through production.

A Facebook spokesperson said “The Chef contains about 85 to 100 digital assets.” A full novel version of the murder mystery novel set in New Orleans will be released by Little, Brown in February 2019.
