Normally, I’d start with a joke and say something like this quarantine thing is easy peasy. I’m used to being alone and doing the writer hermit thing. It’s no biggie. It’s me and the cats. It’s all beer and skittles.

Except when it’s not. It’s lonely sometimes and the cats don’t always like me. I mean, they’re cats. They only like me when there’s food involved. Shrugs. That’s them.

My sheltering in place is pretty simple. Help the tot with school work, walk my 3.1 miles on the treadmill, feed the herd, write a little and try to get outside for some fresh air. The best thing about this quarantine thing is I’m catching up on my reading and my binge watching. I’ve seen all 9 episodes of Baseball and the entire first season of True Blood. So there’s that. I’ve read my first VC Andrews, a current Mary Janice Davidson and a few other books that weren’t as good as I’d thought. Hey, it’s reading and learning, so I’m not complaining. I’ve caught up on learning about my Cincinnati Reds and the Big Red Machine, so there’s that, too. Hey, I can’t watch baseball, but I can watch the show. As for the draft, I’m looking forward to it. Hey, my Bengals might get Burrow and that’s not shabby. They might also get out of the danged basement, too.

I’ve got my assistants to help. They’re very helpful, either giving the evil eye or walking on the keyboard…or walking on me to get me away from the keyboard. Shrugs. It’s in the job description.

If I had to say something inspirational at this time, it’d be from Mr. Rogers. “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

This is important to me because there are times when I get scared by the coverage or a little unnerved by what’s going on. Hey, I’m human and I get a little worried. But we’ll all get there. I know it.
