Horror Poetry: SPICE by Sheila English

To celebrate Halloween we thought we’d share a horror poem by author Sheila English.

Spice

By

Sheila English

Breath hitches and it holds

Adrenaline spreads uncontrolled

Extremities shudder as blood turns cold

Fear perfumes the air fivefold

Eyes large and full of terror

Seek the darkest shadowed corner

Something there has come to scare her

To spice the flesh that I’ll devour

Skin so soft and salty-sweet

Time ticks by, she marinates

A pinch of tears roll down her cheeks

A dash of sweat glazes the meat

As lightning strikes, I hear her gasp

I take my time to make it last

I move forward to break my fast

Revealing teeth that I then gnash

Her scream is like a dinner bell
