Celebrating Women’s History Month, and the Women Who Inspired Us…...

From author Miranda Oh

I recently gave birth to our first child, a daughter; when I say recently, I mean a week ago. When asked to write this post, the first thing I thought of was; women who have influenced me and to compare them to how I might influence my daughter. The definition of influence is the capacity to affect the character, development, or behaviour of someone or something, or the effect itself.
My mom and I were best of friends growing up and now that I’m an adult our relationship has only grown stronger. I absolutely loved the relationship we had growing up and knew that one day I wanted to influence my own child the way she did with me.
The world is such a loud place and has the capacity to be extremely dark and scary, but with the right influence and focus on the important things, the world, your world, has the opportunity to be beautiful, balanced and filled with peace and love. It all starts at home, and within the heart. Growing up, the rule in our home was that; love is everything, meaning that when you communicate, act, or behave – that it comes from a good place in your heart.
When you are young, you do as you are told by your family and do not necessarily question it. As you grow up, you experiment with your behaviours and thoughts to try and figure out who you are as a person. Once I was old enough to experience life as an individual I started to notice that not everyone had the same influence of love that I did. That people would act out in anger, fear, or other negative emotions. It took time to grow into an adult myself to realize the impact of those actions and how it ripple affected not only the person but the people around them.
In my twenties, I went through some trauma – you can read all about and experience those traumas in my trilogy Chin Up Tits Out – and through that trauma, I lost my capacity to believe that love IS everything.
With losing that belief system it became harder and harder to find my balance, find my peace and find my self-love and self-respect. I turned to my mom time and time again asking and begging for advice and extra love. Thank goodness she was there over and over and showed me nothing but love, kindness and encouraged me to continue to dig deep within myself for that belief system that was instilled in me from birth.
Through writing my books, the Chin Up Tits Out series, I found that love again, I regained my faith and belief that love IS everything.
Once I found that love again, I started to notice the things that I clearly wanted in life would pop up easily and with little effort. I most certainly believe in the fact that because of my influence in life and to believe that love is everything, that love was getting me what I truly wanted in life. Fast forward a short year or two later, I had become a mom myself. I spent most of my twenties thinking that I would have fertility problems, or that I would forever be alone, a spinster in life. When my mindset changed and I fell back in love with myself, I found an amazing soul to call my partner in life, and we easily became pregnant. The pregnancy was ‘easy’ as far as pregnancies go, and the delivery was positive all around. The moment that my partner handed us our daughter, we locked eyes and I was immediately flooded with joy. I knew instantly that I would do everything I possibly could in this world to instill the same influence and the same love into my daughter as my mother did for me.
No matter how many times we question it, lose it, or attempt to fight it, I will stand by my daughter and encourage her that love is everything until my last breath in this life, as I know my mom will do until her last breath in this life.
Here’s a look at Miranda’s Chin Up Series:::::
