Being different doesn’t mean being disabled and this book- Differently Abled by Sandra Lee Reynolds has a lovely, poignant and real way of showing people what it’s like to be left out as we follow 8-year-old Sierra who has down syndrome.

As we know, people, especially children, can have a difficult time accepting something or someone who is different. This book shows Sierra’s point of view. Her longing to be accepted and included and what it’s like to be left out became she is different. It tugs on your heartstrings and on your sense of empathy in a way that challenges the reader to put themselves in the shoes of someone who is different.

It’s also a beautiful story about acceptance and inclusion. It’s about courage. Sierra’s courage. And the courage of others to open their hearts, minds, and lives to accept those different from themselves.

If you’re looking for a heartwarming story that also gives insight about someone differently abled I highly recommend this book, based on true story. Let Sierra help you learn to celebrate differences.
