Barnes & Noble is delighted to announce Other Birds: A Novel by Sarah Addison Allen as their September 2022 National Book Club pick.  The bookseller will be offering its readership an exclusive Book Club Edition which features an original cover and colored endpapers.

Other Birds is a sparkling jewel of a novel about found family and coming home,” said Shannon DeVito, Director of Books at Barnes & Noble.  “Artfully blurring the lines between reality and imagination, Allen masterfully crafts an atmosphere where a colorful cast of characters blends beautifully with magical realism, tied with a thread of mystery.  This book charms, haunts and exhilarates all at once unraveling a story of lost souls, happen chances and buried secrets.  I’m so excited to announce Other Birds as our September Book Club pick and eager to dive into discussions with our readers!”

Barnes & Noble selects a newly published novel each month to champion as their Book Club pick to spark discussions among its readers.  This month’s selection, Other Birds: A Novel, follows Zoey Hennessey, just shy of nineteen when her mother dies, as she relocates to a small coastal town in South Carolina to claim her mother’s apartment at The Dellawisp.  When she becomes entangled in the mysterious death of her new neighbor on the night of her arrival, she discovers that unfinished stories, such as her own, permeate the place she now calls home.  Alongside a motley ensemble including a girl on the run, a grieving chef, two estranged sisters and three ghosts– Zoey must finally confront her own past to pave the way to her future.

Barnes & Noble will be hosting a free live virtual event with Sarah Addison Allen on Tuesday, October 4 at 3:00pm Eastern Time.  The Other Birds: A Novel author will be in a round table conversation with Shannon DeVito, Director of Books at Barnes & Noble, and Miwa Messer, Executive Producer of Poured Over, The B&N Podcast.  Virtual registration via Eventbrite is required and the event will be live streamed on Zoom.

Before the event, customers can share their thoughts and reactions with other readers on social media using the hashtag #BNBookClub.

“It’s the highest honor for an author when a bookseller places their book into a reader’s hands and says, ‘I think you’ll like this,’” said author Sarah Addison Allen.  “Thank you so much Barnes & Noble for the special magic, the bright spark, you create when you connect readers and writers.  I’ve always been grateful for your support, and I’m thrilled that Other Birds is your September Book Club pick.”
