Hurricane Sandy left neighborhoods devastated and that included neighborhood schools. Many schools are still not open nearly a month after the disaster. Working with the Kids in Distressed Situations organization, and via their own book grant program, Scholastic has donated one-million books to schools and libraries in the hardest hit areas of New York and New Jersey.

Scholastic is making the donations available through a Book Grant process where those schools and libraries can apply and obtain books based on their specific needs.

From Richard Robinson, President and CEO of Scholastic: “The educators, parents, and caregivers, who are helping children in our hard hit communities throughout the region, are true heroes. All of us at Scholastic are committed to getting these books, lessons plans and other learning materials into the affected communities as soon as possible in the hope that we can provide support for our young people as they return to schools that need extra resources.”

You can make a donation to K.I.D.S. – Kids in Distressed Situations to help donate even more books.
