Teen Vogue has launched an online magazine book club which will feature selected reads for teens. The first book selection is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Actresses , and Yara Shahidi chose this book for the magazine’s initial selection.
“I first read Their Eyes Were Watching God for freshman English class and couldn’t put it down. From the symbolism of protagonist Janie Crawford’s doomed romances to hair politics, Zora Neale Hurston’s book taught the importance of embracing every facet of yourself. Janie overcomes stifling social norms, bad relationships, and even bad weather before she’s able to shed her obsession with society’s expectations,” said Yara.
Teen readers are invited to join the book discussion and online magazine at Teen Vogue’s Facebook page.
