The much anticipated Pottermore,eBook site of author J.K. Rowling and everything Harry Potter, is being slammed by hackers, hucksters, and cyber-cons. Fake accounts, promises of early access on eBay and “enter to win” scams are rampant. Many of these sites are asking for personal data – in other words – mining for information to steal identities and credit cards, or just make money.
There is a legitimate early access portal to the site, but it DOES NOT ask for money. This access is a challenge sponsored via the website. (This particular challenge has now been closed).
In response the Pottermore blog has issued the following statement:Â “Access to Pottermore is, and always will be, completely free so please don’t be tempted by people selling Pottermore accounts online. You will only be wasting your money-and there are still more clues and chances to come.”
