Along with your coffee and candy bar you can now purchase a book via a vending machine. From the mind of Stephen Fowler, owner of The Monkey’s Paw, an ecclectic bookstore in Toronto, Canada comes the Biblio-Mat.

The bookstore is well-known as; “Toronto’s most idiosyncratic second-hand bookshop,” and it’s owner is always coming up with unique ways to market books.

Fowler has just unveiled his newest venture, is a “vending machine that dispenses random books for two dollars apiece“. The machine has a 1950’s vintage look, and dispenses books for $2.00 each. The books are spit out randomly so customers never know what they are going to get. It’s a new take on the clearance table at the front of the bookstore.

Fowler says; “in the used-book trade: people are always looking for meaning. They’ll get a book and feel as though it was psychically selected for them.”
