The Little Girl in the Moon – Moxie & Tycho Town
DiAnn Floyd Boehm and Katherine Louise Floyd Boehm

Author/illustrator/educator Diann Floyd Boehm writes children’s books and to date has published six volumes. THE LITTLE GIRL IN THE MOON is a series she has both written and illustrated in the first two books, and now she is joined in the illustrations by Katherine Louise Boehm, a professor at Hostos CUNY. Both are visual artists as well as performing artists!

In this episode three of the series, the little girl on the moon is joined by her dog Moxie who serves as a guide around the town of Moonling, and with imaginative illustrations the adventure is an introduction to aspects of the moon offered in Moonling terms. They open with Tycho Crater and learn about the living requirements, ‘Our town is a bit like a small town on Earth…we enjoy watching Earthlings and all your beautiful traditions around the world. So, the grown=up Moonlings decided to build a town just like yours so we could experience what life might be like on Earth.’ Continuing their instructive outing, the little girl and Moxie visit the ‘grasserie estorer’ (grocery store), the banca (bank), the kirka (church), the Tycho Fleegan Karr Parc. ospital, polist and freon stations, shule, museda – lots of sites with names that phonetically resemble Earth words! Included in the site visits are some interesting facts about space life that kids will love.

This is an adorable book with terrific illustrations that will entertain while stimulating imagination. The Boehm ladies had succeeded in their collaboration to encourage children to discover and learn – and laugh! Highly recommended. Grady Harp Review.
