Lisa Marie Presley & Riley Keough’s FROM HERE TO THE GREAT UNKNOWN is Oprah’s Book Club’s October Pick

Oprah Winfrey has announced that her latest Oprah’s Book Club pick is FROM HERE TO THE GREAT UNKNOWN (Random House) by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough. The news was announced yesterday on CBS Mornings. A primetime television event, An Oprah Special: The Presleys – Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley aired on CBS last night. In the special, Oprah visited Graceland to sit down with Riley Keough for her first in-depth interview since Lisa Marie Presley died unexpectedly in 2023. You can click here to watch the full segment.

“I have great love and admiration for Lisa Marie Presley, and was so moved that her daughter Riley, through her grief, was able to help her finish a beautifully touching memoir that allows us to see her mother at her most honest and vulnerable,” said Oprah Winfrey in a statement to the Associated Press. “This is an intimate look at what it was like growing up as heir to one of America’s most famous families.”

 “When Oprah called to tell me that she was selecting my mom’s memoir for her book club, all I could think about was how proud my mom would have been to know her story was going to be read and discussed with such empathy, thought and grace,” said Riley Keough. “She would have felt incredibly vulnerable, but profoundly grateful for the chance to really reach people.” 

Lisa Marie Presley, born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, tells her whole story for the first time in FROM HERE TO THE GREAT UNKNOWN: a raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir faithfully completed by her daughter, Riley Keough. When Lisa Marie passed away unexpectedly in early 2023, Riley got the tapes that she had recorded for the book, laid in her bed, and listened to story after story about her life: smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about getting dragged screaming out of the bathroom as she ran towards his body on the floor, about motherhood, deep addiction, and ever-present grief. Riley knew she had to fulfill her mother’s wish to reveal these memories, incandescent and painful, to the world. Written in both Lisa Marie’s and Riley’s voices, a mother and daughter communicating—from this world to the one beyond—as they try to heal each other, From Here to the Great Unknown is a book like no other—the last words of the only child of an American icon. 

Published in tandem with the hardcover edition, Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts narrates the audiobook version of FROM HERE TO THE GREAT UNKNOWN (now available in the PRH Audio app), alongside Riley Keough, who helped complete the book following her mother’s untimely passing. The audiobook also features never-before-heard selections from the personal tapes Presley recorded as she prepared to write the book. 

Roberts says, “I was so moved by Lisa Marie’s incredible memoir. It was a real privilege to give voice to her wild and beautiful life, and I deeply appreciate Riley entrusting me with her mother’s story.”
