The High Court of Britain recently issued a block on the file sharing site, The Pirate Bay. This site is well known for pirating eBooks, music and video to users for free and without regard to copyright infringement. Richard Mollet of the Publishers Association said of the blockage: “The Pirate Bay’s operators are online criminals. It is crucial that the High Court provides protection to the book and publishing industry by blocking The Pirate Bay.”

The block is issued for; “Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2, Virgin Media and prevents users from accessing the site.”

Similar legal proceeding are and have been hashed out in the U.S. and other countries. The group that operates Pirate Bay, Carl Lundström, Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Svartholm have been found guilty of piracy, copyright infringement and an assortment of other crimes in several courts and are facing jail time. They are appealing these decisions and the site is currently still “live”.
