Readers can also enjoy all-new introductions to each piece and an in-depth “Stories Behind the Screams” section, offering a rare glimpse into Leslie’s creative process.

Originally published in 2004, One Hand Screaming established Leslie as a master of contemporary horror, blending chilling tales of the supernatural with elements of dark humor and psychological suspense.

In Mark’s words, “It’s been an incredible journey revisiting these stories, seeing how they’ve resonated with readers over the past two decades, and then determining which additional stories I’ve penned in the past twenty years to blend in to it, offering a fresh new treat,” says Leslie. “This anniversary edition is my way of saying thank you to all the readers who continue to support my work. And what better way to celebrate than with a delicious craft beer? I can’t wait for readers to experience One Hand Screaming in a whole new way.”

Robert J. Sawyer, Canada’s Dean of Science Fiction described Leslie as “an exciting new voice in Canadian fiction and sure to be one of the SF stars of tomorrow.”

Bram Stoker Award winning author Edo van Belkom called him “a writer with a bright, bright future” and said that Leslie “can move from urban fantasy to magic realism, from hard science fiction to dark psychological horror with apparent ease.”

Nancy Kilpatrick compared his horror to being reminiscent of the old-time story tellers and added “if there’s a dark corner, Leslie will draw you to it, even against your will.”

Julie E. Czerneda said “Leslie paints his characters with compassion, then sends a chill down the spine. Prepare to be haunted by a master of suspense.”

New York Times bestselling horror author Jonathan Maberry praises this new collection by saying that “One Hand Screaming is a wonderfully weird gallop through nightmare country. Dark, often hilarious, twisted, and filled with magic.” Maberry says that he “loved every single story.”

Kevin J. Anderson, a New York Times bestselling author says that “Mark Leslie is full of ideas —fun ones, suspenseful ones, clever ones, twisted ones. You never know what’s going to come up next in One Hand Screaming. But you won’t be disappointed.”

To further commemorate this milestone, Stark Publishing has partnered with Counterpoint Brewing Company in Kitchener, Ontario, to create a limited-edition craft beer inspired by the book. One Hop Screaming, a boldly hopped IPA, will be available in October 2024, offering the perfect pairing for readers eager to enhance their reading experience.

Book Review: “The Edge” by David Baldacci

After the events of “The 6:20 Man” former Army Ranger Travis Devine was hired by Homeland Security to work special projects.

After stopping foreign operatives on a train in Europe, Travis is now attempting to find out who killed CIA Agent Jenny Silkwell in her hometown of Putnam, Maine.

Jenny was there to close out some unfinished business but no one knows the nature of that business: It could be CIA business since her killer left clues that seem to point to a foreign agent, or it could have been personal related to the rape of her sister, Alex, 15 years ago, followed by a string of suspicious deaths.

Unfortunately, a week or so ago, Jenny was found lying at the bottom of a cliff with a bullet hole in her head. Her laptop (with classified information on it) and her cell phone are both missing.

Travis needs to sort it all out…..

But….the townspeople of small town Putnam are keeping secrets.

And there is a killer making sure these secrets stay that way.

Lucily, Travis is a good investigator and is well versed in combat.

Both of which he needs to stay alive.

Yikes!

To see what happens in this action-packed second book in “The 6:20 Man” series, you will have to read the book. 😉

SCHOLASTIC REVEALS COVER FOR NEW BOOK IN THE WORLDWIDE BESTSELLING HUNGER GAMES SERIES BY SUZANNE COLLINS

0
Scholastic today revealed the cover for Sunrise on the Reaping, the previously announced new novel in the worldwide bestselling The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, to be published March 18, 2025.
Sunrise on the Reaping, the first new Hunger Games book since the worldwide #1 bestseller The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2020), will be published simultaneously in print, digital and audio formats by Scholastic in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with a World English first printing of 2.5 million copies. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was the top selling book in all categories in the first half of 2020 (Publishers Weekly). To date, there are more than 100 million copies of all four books in The Hunger Games series in print and digital formats worldwide, and foreign publishing rights have been sold in 54 languages. A feature film adaptation of Sunrise on the Reaping will be released by global entertainment leader Lionsgate on November 20, 2026.
“The spiky sun rises on a symbol that will come to mean a lot to Haymitch Abernathy, as well as countless readers,” said David Levithan, VP, Publisher, and Editorial Director for Scholastic. “Artist Tim O’Brien has created yet another iconic Hunger Games cover – this one symbolically exploring one of the central themes of the series: how conflicting forces can be connected by their common nature, the songbird and the snake springing from the same source.”
On returning to the world of The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins said, “With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”
ABOUT SUNRISE ON THE REAPING
Sunrise on the Reaping will revisit the world of Panem twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves. When Haymitch’s name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He’s torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who’s nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he’s been set up to fail. But there’s something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.
ABOUT SUZANNE COLLINS AND THE HUNGER GAMES
Bestselling author Suzanne Collins first made her mark in children’s literature with the New York Times bestselling Underland Chronicles fantasy series for middle grade readers. She continued to explore the effects of war and violence on those coming of age with The Hunger Games series. The Hunger Games (2008) was an instant bestseller, appealing to both teen readers and adults. It was called “addictive” by Stephen King in Entertainment Weekly, and “brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced” by John Green in the New York Times Book Review. The book appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 260 consecutive weeks (more than five consecutive years), and the total series has been on the series bestseller list for over 345 weeks to date. There are more than 100 million copies of all four books in the series—The Hunger GamesCatching Fire (2009), Mockingjay (2010), and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2020)—in print and digital formats worldwide. Foreign publishing rights for The Hunger Games Series have been sold in 54 languages to 52 territories to date. Lionsgate has successfully adapted each of these books into five feature films that collectively grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide in theatrical ticket sales.
In 2010 Suzanne Collins was named to the TIME 100 list as well as the Entertainment Weekly Entertainers of the Year list; in 2011 Fast Company named her to their 100 Most Creative People in Business; and in 2016 she was presented the 2016 Authors Guild Award for Distinguished Service to the Literary Community for exemplifying the unique power of young people’s literature to change lives and to create lifelong book lovers. It was the first time the Guild presented its annual award to a YA author. The Atlantic called Hunger Games heroine Katniss Everdeen, “the most important female character in recent pop culture history,” and TIME Magazine named Katniss to its list of “The 100 Most influential People Who Never Lived.” On The Hunger Games trilogy, The New York Times Book Review wrote, “At its best the trilogy channels the political passion of 1984, the memorable violence of A Clockwork Orange, the imaginative ambience of The Chronicles of Narnia and the detailed inventiveness of Harry Potter.” The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was published in May 2020 and debuted at #1 on the New York TimesUSA TodayWall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. The book also was the top selling book in any category for the first half of 2020. Neighborly Inspiration by Steffanie Costigan

Every book has come from some sort of inspiration for my book of Land of the Dragon the beginning setting of Germany during 1940s World War II inspiration came from that from my childhood neighbours. Growing up I had next door neighbours who were immigrants from Germany.

My neighbours from Germany lived during the war and as such they had many tales of what it was like living during that time in Germany. As a young girl I was captivated by their war stories; they told their experiences to me with such passion and tears in their eyes. I became fascinated with World War II. I started to researcher and interview old folks in the area asking them all sorts of question.

The more I researched and did interviews the more I realized patterns of how the dictatorship tried to erase the identity of Germany and replace it with a new during that time. They change and twisted culture and traditions replacing them with unethical new traditions of hate. That is when I realized how important it is to celebrate our different cultures and not forget them, if we do, we can be at risk of losing our identity and have a dictatorship manipulate our cultures.

There is power behind culture, “The only true happiness lies in knowing who you are.” ~Laurell K. Hamilton

Here’s a look at Steffanie’s latest release Land of the Dragon:

They had not even started to fight, yet I already could smell blood in the air…

I am a traitor, victim, fighter, survivor, sister, and daughter of a Nazi. I am Eleanor Kuhn. I will not be indoctrinated by Hitler. I fight for the truth my world has forgotten and ignored. Upon escaping the country, I stumbled into a whole new world, and I soon realized that war is everywhere you look.

With nothing but the clothes on my back and five siblings in tow, I wash up on the coast of a world I’d only glimpsed in books and the clouds of dreams: Land of the Dragon. But there’s something about this new world that rings with familiarity. Or perhaps someone . . .

Land of the Dragon is a historic fantasy layered with details and rich symbolism a Eric Hoffer Award nominee and Literary Titan Award winner book. If you like details in stories, magic, adventure, romance, and dragons this book is a read you will enjoy time and time again. With each read, you may uncover more details layered throughout the book that you didn’t originally recognize. This book is brought to you from Reading Dream Press where stories come alive.
