It’s always a pleasure when I’m lucky enough to speak with the enigmatic, and beautiful soul, Sharon Lucas. President of the Reading Divas Book Club and the
Event Planner for the club’s annual literary conference, The Black Authors
& Readers Rock Weekend. She considers this time as the third or “Passion
Phase” of her working life. The first was spent as a Human Relations
professional and the second in Sales Management with a major cosmetic company.
She always loved to read and the people skills she developed during those
phases has served as a prelude to reinventing herself as an advocate for
African American authors and their literature.
Sharon founded the Reading Divas in 1998 in order to carve out a little time for herself away from her busy life as a wife, mother, and Sales Manager. Since that time she has guided the club through changes in the literary world – such as the closing of many of our
brick and mortar book stores and the introduction and popularity of the
E-reader. Sharon continues to use her God-given talents to spread the word of literacy, and to encourage her community and those around her to live life, and experience joy… through books.
