Over the last few weeks rumors have been voiced by nearly every major media outlet regarding Amazon opening a bricks-and-mortar store. There have been no conformations or denials of this by Amazon.
According to several media outlets including the Huffington Post, Amazon is considering opening a store in Seattle, Washington. eBookNewser reports: “while much of Amazon’s business is still from print books, DVDs and CDs, the company is banking on the proliferation of digital media, which is why they are focusing so much on the Kindle and Kindle Fire and selling these devices at such low prices. Why would it make sense to open a physical store to sell digital items? Perhaps to compete with Barnes & Noble’s Nook business, which is known to have better customer service than Amazon because of in-store offerings.”
The Good E Reader blog claims sources “close to the situation” are saying that an Amazon retail store is set to open in Seattle withing the next few months. It is seen as a trial store to gauge how well physical stores might perform and these stores will be what is termed “boutique” outlets where only high-end items such a their line of Kindle’s will be sold.
