Remember those hard-boiled crime novels of the past? From authors like Peter Rabe and William Campbell Gault? They are coming back as eBooks thanks to F&W Media and their launch of Prologue Books. Over 250 titles that have been out of print for decades, most from the 1940 – 1970’s will now be available as eBooks.

Prologue Books will be an eBook only imprint and will be headed by  Ben LeRoy publisher of Tyrus Books. “I envision Prologue Books not simply an eBook publisher for out-0f-print titles, bu as a living record of the crime, science fiction and fantasy genres. There’s great opportunity to shine the spotlight on authors who may have been significantly influential on the current state of publishing, but who have never really received their due for one reason or another. With the help of luminaries in the genres – authors, readers, reviewers – we are excited to find and share those storeis,” LeRoy said in a statement.

Authors at Tyrus Books have received some of the highest awards in writing, the Edgar, the Shamus, the Anthony and the Barry. An additional 100 eTitles will be added by the end of 2012.
