Today, Behind The Words welcomes Lynette Eason. Lynette is the best-selling, award winning author of over fifty books in several genres.

Welcome, Lynette, we’re excited to have you on Reader’s Entertainment.

Thank you so much. I’m thrilled to be here!

First, tell our readers a bit about yourself.

Hi all, I’m from upstate South Carolina and have lived here most of my life discounting short stints in North Carolina, Florida and Paris, France. I’m married with two children. Jack and I have been married for 25 years. Our daughter, Lauryn (23), is just finishing up her first year of law school, and our son (21) is a junior in college and a local real estate agent. We have one fur baby who is three years old. Her name is Sasha and she’s an American Eskimo, aka, an Eskie.

How long have you been writing and it is your full time job?

I’ve been writing for about 24 years. I’ve been traditionally published since 2008 and writing has become my full-time job. I taught special needs students for 12 years before that.

What does your typical writing day look like?

There’s no such thing as a typical writing day. LOL. I TRY to write first thing in the morning to get it done, but inevitably, life interferes and I’m still writing in the afternoon. Ha.

So…..tell us about your latest release?

Crossfire is book two in the series. Here’s the back cover copy:

FBI special agent Julianna James is a top-notch negotiator who has never lost a hostage. Surely she can manage to take care of her much younger sister, Dottie, who showed up unannounced to live with Julianna while she finished her senior year of high school.

A former sniper with the 75th Ranger Regiment, Clay Snyder left the army after a tragic incident that he can’t get past. Now he’s working as a high school resource officer until he can figure out what to do with the rest of his life.

Their paths cross when Julianna is called in to negotiate a courtroom hostage situation involving Clay’s sister. Impressed and a bit intimidated by the calm, capable woman with the dark hair and blue eyes, Clay invites her to speak at his school. Dottie’s school.

But as the anniversary of a school shooting from Julianna’s past approaches, it becomes clear that her perfect record is about to be tested and that Dottie is at risk. If Julianna and Clay can’t figure out who’s behind the attacks, more innocent people will die–and Julianna just might be one of them.

This intense story of revenge and redemption from bestselling author and master of suspense Lynette Eason will have you up all night as you race toward the explosive finish.

What inspired the idea for this book?

It’s hard to say. I don’t usually get “inspired” by something. I know that sounds weird, but my stories generally evolve from brainstorming sessions with other writer buddies. We throw around a lot of “What-ifs” and by the end, I usually have something I can work with.

Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?

In all the stories I’ve written, I’ve been able to relate to a handful of the characters. I tend not to put a lot of myself into the characters, but try to create unique people who resonate with others in various ways.

Would you and your main character be friends?

Oh yes, definitely.

What part of the book was the hardest to write?

The hardest part is always the romance. LOL. I know that sounds silly, but I’m not an overly romantic person. At least not in the “flowers and candy” kind of thing. At this point, it’s please change the toilet paper roll if you use the last square or roll the trash out for me so I don’t have to.

Did you model a character after someone you know?

No. Never.

If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?

My books always have sequels. The next book in the series is called Critical Threat and will release in January 2023.

Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?

There are many authors who’ve influenced me. Dee Henderson was my mentor, along with Gayle Roper, Terri Blackstock, Agatha Christie, Colleen Coble, Angela Hunt, and more. I could go on and on. In fact, I love to go to conferences and sit in my favorite authors classes. I always learn something.

Any writing rituals?

Eating too much while I write. I really need to stop that one!

Do you have a secret talent readers would be surprised by?

I’m fluent in ASL. Is that a talent?

Your favorite go to drink or food when the world goes crazy!

Honestly, I’m trying to stop turning to food when my world goes crazy, but when I’m not exactly successful, it’s usually chocolate and a coke. Yeah…now, you know why I need to quit that bad habit, too. Ha.

And what is your writing Kryptonite?

I honestly don’t know. I write through everything. Even so-called writer’s block. I wrote when I had COVID and felt horrid (not as much, but still…) so, I can’t answer that one. Sorry!

Thank you so much for joining us today, Lynette!
