Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guardino’S Award-Winning Series Continues in Blacksad: They All Fall Down • Part Two

Blacksad is back in action!

Following Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido’s Eisner- and Harvey Award-winning Blacksad: They All Fall Down • Part One, published in English in 2022, the story now continues in the eagerly anticipated Blacksad: They All Fall Down • Part Two. The explosive tale, written by Canales, illustrated by Guarnido, translated for English-language readers by Diana Schutz and Brandon Kander, and newly lettered by Tom Orzechowski and Lois Athena Buhalis, will arrive in a handsome hardcover edition from Dark Horse Books in November 2024.

The award-winning story begun in Blacksad: They All Fall Down • Part One comes to a breathtaking conclusion as private investigator John Blacksad finds himself in a race against time to save his best friend from the electric chair! Weekly’s been framed by Lewis Solomon, the power behind New York’s construction boom, but the king of the hill has built his empire on a mound of corpses—with help from a hired hit man now out for his own revenge! Blacksad must take down the killer before the body count climbs even higher. But with Weekly in stir and cops dogging his every move, the feline detective is not only minus an ally, but dangerously distracted by the sudden reappearance of his former fiancée Alma, whose own secrets threaten to derail our hero’s search for the truth.

Blacksad is such an international success that it’s now published in twenty-eight different languages throughout the world,” notes Diana Schutz, who writes the English-language translation script for the book with her partner Brandon Kander. “But it’s no secret that Spanish creators Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido are especially involved in the Dark Horse edition of their work. Juan and Juanjo have created a quintessentially American hero, letting him—and his impeccable moral compass—loose in a 1950s noirish New York City, but remember that all of this is originally conceived and written in Spanish. So, Dark Horse’s English-language edition of Blacksad allows us to take better advantage of the creators’ love of mid-century Americana by playing to the authentic linguistic rhythms and idioms of the time period. Editor Jenny Bingham-Blenk and I are very fortunate to work directly with Juan and Juanjo on the series, and their dedication to all aspects of the Dark Horse edition just flat-out makes for a better book. The incredible support of our English-language readership along with the many Eisner and Harvey Awards that Blacksad has won are, I think, a testament to that.”

Blacksad: They All Fall Down • Part Two HC (8.375” x 10.875”; 64 pages) arrives in bookstores on November 5, 2024, and in comic shops on November 6, 2024. It is now available to preorder at AmazonBarnes & Noble, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $19.99.

Praise for Blacksad: They All Fall Down• Part One:

Blacksad: They All Fall Down – Part One is a gorgeous, twisting page-turner that invites us to peek into New York’s past through a pair of shattered rose-colored glasses.”—Comic Watch

Blacksad stands as one of the best explorations of American history and Americana in the stands, due in large part to its anthropomorphic animal noir stylings and classic Hollywood cinema flavors…Díaz Canales and Guarnido remain at the top of their game with their award-winning series.”—Comics Beat

“Every page is saturated with personality, each panel composed as a painting, yet they still combine so effectively to tell the story.”—Slings and Arrows

Blacksad is back after almost eight years, and it’s just what we need. There’s plenty of twists and intrigue in this Part One of a new storyline to keep the pages turning. You’ll want to do that slowly, however, to give yourself plenty of time to take in the gorgeous Juanjo Guarnido artwork.”—The Comics Journal

“This is epic storytelling from the dramatic scenes with Weekly and Solomon at his construction site to the laugh-out-loud moments of theatre trials…Fantastic. A must for everyone’s collection.”—Nerdly
