Why Make a Combination Home Library and Theater System

Why to Make a Combination Home Library and Theater SystemWhy Make a Combination Home Library and Theater System
by guest blogger Brooke Chaplan

Sometimes we feel like getting comfortable with a book to read and other times we’re ready to watch a new movie that can be downloaded at home for a realistic theater experience. If you enjoy both pastimes at home with limited space to focus on one or the other, combine a home library with a theater system to have either available when you’re in the mood. Here are reasons why you may want to make room for both

Shared Space

Unless your home has several extra rooms that can be decorated for leisure activities, you may need to designate a single room for both a home library and a theater system. A combined space for both types of relaxing entertainment can be arranged by dividing the room in half so that one side offers quiet and relaxing seats with adequate light for reading, while the other side can be separated by a room divider or another fixture and darkened for film viewing when desired. The theater seating can be shared for reading purposes or designated separately for movies.

Leisure Ambiance

The entire room can be fitted with room-darkening blinds and window coverings that are easily adjusted to whichever activity you prefer at a given time. Chairs could be the movable kind and stored when not in use for film viewing, or they can line the walls and pulled out when needed. Certain types of seating will accommodate either reading or film viewing and can be left in place to contribute to theater mood or reading ambiance. Overhead or sconce lighting along with mobile standing light fixtures enable lighting in the room to be adjusted for either type of recreation.

Family Togetherness

With a room divider, family members can share the same space to keep everyone together even when enjoying different activities. Movies can be viewed by wearing headphones so that readers won’t be bothered by movie sounds when absorbed in a book or magazine. A home theater system blends well with a library when books fill wall shelves and theater seats can be shared or are otherwise non-dominant.

Utility Economy

Sharing leisure-time space in your home will reduce utility use in other rooms. Everyone can benefit from the same heating or cooling system as well as adjustable lighting. If the book or movie turns out to be boring, family members can switch to the alternate pastime.

A combination home library and theater system makes efficient usage of limited home areas for entertainment. Start planning your leisure room layout now.

Roald Dahl Teams With Filmmaker and Global Stars Present “James and the Giant Peach”

Roald-Dahl-thumb-300x150Roald Dahl Teams Up with Academy Award-Winning Filmmaker to Present “James and the Giant Peach, with Taika and Friends”

The Roald Dahl Story Company has brought together Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian, Jojo Rabbit) and a host of global stars, including Ryan Reynolds, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson and Cara Delevingne, to retell the beloved children’s novel JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH in full, across 10 episodes exclusively on the Roald Dahl YouTube channel.

The first two episodes of “JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, WITH TAIKA AND FRIENDS: are available globally now (to watch the episodes, click here) and feature award-winning talent including Meryl StreepBenedict Cumberbatch, Nick Kroll, and brothers Chris and Liam Hemsworth reading portions of the book from their homes.

New episodes will be published every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, at 1:00 p.m. (ET) with viewers able to expect appearances from a whole host of collaborators (to watch the trailer, click here). The series promises many exciting and unexpected combinations, the biggest names in film, television, fashion and music coming together to perform each section of the tale.

The line-up of readers has over 40 Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tony award wins between them.

As well as other surprise readers, the following stars will all read along with Taika over the course of 10 episodes: Utkarsh Ambudkar, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Cullum, Benedict Cumberbatch, Roman Griffin Davis, Cara Delevingne, Cynthia Erivo, Beanie Feldstein, Josh Gad, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth, Mindy Kaling, Nick Kroll, Kumail Nanjiani, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson, Billy Porter, Gordon Ramsay, Eddie Redmayne, Ryan Reynolds, Ben Schwartz, Meryl Streep, Tessa Thompson, Olivia Wilde, Ruth Wilson and Archie Yates.

The collaboration between the Roald Dahl Story Company, Waititi and his illustrious line up of friends aims to raise money for Partners In Health, a medical and social justice organization fighting COVID-19 and supporting public health systems in some of the most vulnerable communities around the world.

The Roald Dahl Story Company has committed to matching $1 million of donations, with other donors lined up for matching beyond this milestone. People can donate to Partners In Health by visiting www.pih.org/giantpeach

The campaign forms part of a long-term charitable commitment for the Roald Dahl Story Company who recently donated $1.3 million to Partners In Health for maternal health in Sierra Leone. Overall, The Roald Dahl Story Company and Dahl Family have given over $12 million to date to charitable causes.

The Roald Dahl Story Company will also be supporting their other core charity partners at this challenging time – including Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity in the UK, who provide specialist nurses to seriously ill children and whose important work for the UK’s National Health Service requires support now more than ever.

Waititi was recently announced as the writer, director and executive producer of two original Roald Dahl animated series for Netflix as part of an extended raft of animated Roald Dahl TV. Waititi will develop an original series based on the world and characters of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and develop an original show centred on the Oompa-Loompas.

Filmmaker and Host of ‘JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, WITH TAIKA AND FRIENDS’, Taika Waititi said: “Being an adult child myself and having read James and the Giant Peach to my girls multiple times, I’m excited to be able to partner with my friends, the Dahl team and Partners In Health and re-tell this story to help those most in need right now. This wacky, wonderful tale is about resilience in children, triumph over adversity and dealing with a sense of isolation which couldn’t been more relevant today.”

Luke Kelly, Managing Director of The Roald Dahl Story Company said: “Roald Dahl’s stories are about the power and importance of kindness – and as a business we believe in enacting that ethos. That’s why we support the critical work of charities such as Partners In Health who are working on the front line in the fight against Covid-19.

“We are so delighted to be able to support this re-telling of James and the Giant Peach and not only bring a moment of joy and escapism to children and families at this very tough time – but also to raise vital funds for Partners in Health

“We’re incredibly grateful and excited to have Taika and so many incredible stars taking part. We can’t wait for people to see what we’ve got in store – it’s going to be absolutely GIGANTIC fun” .

Ophelia Dahl, Roald Dahl’s daughter and Founder of Partners In Health, said: “My dad instilled in us as kids the notion that imagination will spark a chain reaction of possibilities — we can dream endlessly about ideas and make them real. This early training meant it was not such a leap to envision Partners in Health with my friends. Roald was one of our earliest and most enthusiastic supporters and never let me leave for Haiti without stuffing a massive wad of cash in my hand to put towards the next project. You can see from his stories that he always supported the most vulnerable and those excluded from opportunity. PIH was the perfect match.

“We know from experience that the impact of this virus will be felt most by vulnerable communities around the world. But with more than three decades experience in community-based health care, including responses to epidemics and outbreaks such as Ebola, cholera and tuberculosis; we know how to fight this.

“And JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, WITH TAIKA AND FRIENDS will raise critical funds that will allow Partners In Health to invest in local health systems that deliver high-quality, dignified care to fight this disease. We’re so grateful to Taika Waititi and the Roald Dahl Story Company for pulling together this extraordinary initiative and amazing array of talent. It will undoubtedly help in the fight against the long-standing health inequities we see in many parts of the world. Thank you for your generosity.”

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

SilentPatient

This book I couldn’t put down. I read late into the night and finished it first thing this morning. Thrillers and mysteries are not my typical genre. However, this book is amazing! I was hooked from the first page. I feel sorry for the main character. She has been through a lot in her life, and received very little help for it. She does her best to be good but sometimes the mind just snaps and things happens. I almost guessed the twist at the very end. It wasn’t obvious but it does remind me of another thriller book I read years ago. So if you’re into mysteries and thrillers this is a good book.

SilentPatienthollyBook Summary:
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….

Perfect Prince by Michelle M. Pillow

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

perfectprince

This book is not what I expected. It threw me for some loops, but in a good way. The lead character Nadja is strong and smart. She’s not happy with the man her father engaged her too so she found a way to escape. However, this is not what she planned on escaping too. On the hand Olek the strong, handsome Prince is waiting to meet the love of his life. He knows she’s on the ship, but he doesn’t know that she’s a spitfire that doesn’t like to be controlled. Overall, this book is good. I’m so glad I was able to listen to it while at work. If you’re looking for a good dragon story this one is it! I can’t wait to read the others.

Book Summary:
Maybe you don’t know your neighbors as well as you thought you did . . .

“This is a very difficult letter to write. I hope you will not hate us too much. . . My son broke into your home recently while you were out.”

SomeoneHolly

Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets?

In this neighborhood, it’s not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide . . .

You never really know what people are capable of.
