Holly’s Book Review: The Runaway Queen (The Bane Chronicles #2)

The Runaway Queen by Cassandra Clare

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

runawayqueenI love that these short stories are stand alone. I didn’t need to read book 1 to figure out what was going on. This story focused on a young Magnus Bane who was in Paris at the time. He was asked to use his magic powers to help save the Queen and her family. However, this will come at a price. I’m so glad I picked this story up and re-entered the world of Downworlders.

Wait what!? This is the 3rd book! How did I not know this! This is an amazing story. I love the strong characters and how this story is based on the Oklahoma Land Run. It gives a fictional insight to a truly amazing story that started and ended so many hopes and dreams in the 1800’s. This story follows Caroline is wild, passionate, independent, and wanting to branch out on her own. She doesn’t like being under her Fathers rule in Fort Reno and the Land Run is the perfect opportunity to get away. Together with her best friend Amber, they race to grab land for their own. They find the perfect spot to be neighbors, however, unbeknownst to Caroline, this land was already claimed by a boomer. A long time acquaintance Frisco plotted out this land for his own. He has a home, a garden, and soon this land will be his legally. However, things didn’t go as planned during the race. Caroline got there before him and claimed his land. What unfolds is an amazing adventure and story that I was unable to put down. I can’t wait to read the other books! happy reading my friends.

Book Summary:
Caroline Adams returns to Indian Territory after tiring of confining society life. She wants adventure, and when she and her friend Amber come across swaggering outlaw Frisco Smith, they find his dreams for the new territory are very persuasive. With the much-anticipated land run pending, they may just join the rush.

Growing up parentless, all Frisco Smith wanted was a place to call his own. It’s no wonder that he fought to open the Unassigned Lands. After years of sneaking across the border, he’s even managed to put in a dugout house on a hidden piece of property he’s poised to claim.

When the gun sounds, everyone’s best plans are thrown out the window in the chaos of the run. Caroline and Frisco soon find themselves battling over a claim–and both dig in their heels. Settling the rightful ownership will bring these two closer than they ever expected and change their ideas of what a true home looks like.

Sean Hannity’s Live Free or Die Releasing In August

0

51Agxe3HGbLThreshold Editions, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, will publish Sean Hannity’s LIVE FREE OR DIE: America (and the World) on the Brink.

America’s top-rated news and radio host and #1 New York Times bestselling author offers his first book in ten years: a look at America’s fight against those who would reverse our tradition of freedom—a fight that Hannity says we’re dangerously close to losing in 2020.

Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is but one generation away from extinction,” and, for Hannity, his words have never rung truer.  In LIVE FREE OR DIE, Sean will walk readers through a concise ideological history of America to demonstrate how we arrived at this moment of brinksmanship and why now is an All Hands on Deck moment to save the Republic. He delineates the multiple fronts on which we must fight back against the tactics of the left, and how the future of American freedom rests on Donald Trump’s reelection.

Sean Hannity is the host of Hannity on the Fox News Channel (weeknights at 9PM/ET) and the nationally syndicated radio program The Sean Hannity Show.  He is the author of three New York Times bestsellers—Conservative Victory, Deliver Us From Evil, and Let Freedom Ring.

Simon and Schuster will also publish the audio edition, which the author will read.  Threshold Editions will publish LIVE FREE OR DIE on August 4, 2020.

Holly’s Book Review: The Girl With All the Gifts

0

The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

girlwithallthegifts

This book is awesome! I couldn’t stop listening to it once I started. It kept me on my toes with all the twists and action. This story follows a young girl named Melanie. Melanie is not your normal girl, she is special. Miss Justineau is her teacher and will do anything to keep Melanie safe while inside the Military base and outside. When the base is attacked by Hungries, Miss Justineau and others take off to find a safe place. However, things are not what they seem. If you are looking for a action packed post apocalyptic story this is the story for you! By the way the movie is horrible! It didn’t due this book justice! Happy reading my friends.

View all my reviews

Book Summary:
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her “our little genius.”

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t bite, but they don’t laugh.

IMG_3269

Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children’s cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she’ll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn’t know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

The Girl with All the Gifts is a sensational thriller, perfect for fans of Stephen King, Justin Cronin, and Neil Gaiman.

Holly’s Book Review: The Art of Friendship

The Art of Friendship: Creating and Keeping Relationships That Matter by Kim Wier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

TheArtofFriendship

I liked this book. It gave great insights on how to build true friendships. It had am amusing stories, stories from the bible and in between stories. It explains what true friendship looks like and what fake ones are. It has a great guide that can help someone who has never had a real long lasting friendship, or a friendship that was based on what the other person can get. However, it also gives you guidance on how to fret out toxic relationships and what to do with them. Overall this book was a good read and a nice reminder of what true friendship looks like both in real life and from the bible.

Book Summary:
In this age of limitless digital connections, we are somehow lonelier than ever. This isn’t just bad news–it’s dangerous news. Loneliness puts us at greater health risk than smoking or obesity, but we would sooner label ourselves overweight than admit we are lonely. It is a secret that is killing us.

Contrary to all our efforts, the answer is not found in more connections, but deeper ones that mirror God himself as the originator of friendship and the original Friend. The Art of Friendship walks with you into a greater understanding of how God has equipped you to be a friend and to have meaningful friendships. With step-by-step guidance, you will begin to strategize how to fulfill your divine calling as a friend. And through God’s Word, as you come to understand the depth and width and breadth of God as Friend, you will discover that the spiritual discipline of friendship is both life-changing and life-giving.
