If You Hear Her by Shiloh Walker

“What I’m telling you is that there’s not much else we can do at this point.  There is only so much we can do when one woman claims to hear screaming, but nobody reports it, and our searches turn up nothing unusual.”

Lena smiled.  “As I said, I’m more than happy to wait right here, deputy.”

The heels of his shoes thudded dully against the floor and then stopped.  “Ms. Riddle, around here, we work.  We don’t have time to chase down every little imagined problem, spend hours following up just because one person insists she heard something weird —”

“Actually, that kind of is your job.”

A new voice.  A deep, low rumble of a voice—and very, very familiar.   Pretty much the last voice she would have expected to hear.  Narrowing her eyes, she turned her head toward the sound of the voice.  “Ezra King.”

“Hello, Lena.”

Don’t you ‘Hello, Lena’ me, she almost snapped.  She managed to bite it back simply because she didn’t want him to know she’d been looking forward to him calling her…like he’d said he would.

Bastard.

“You okay, Lena?”

“Oh, I’m just peachy,” she drawled, resisting the urge to cross her arms over her chest.  Just the sound of that low, sexy drawl had her body doing bad, bad things.

Sexy, so damned sexy, the sort of voice a woman wants to hear murmuring in her ear during just the right moment—hell, with that kind of voice, any moment would be right.

Like a phone call.

A phone call would have been nice.

But he never called—

Bestselling author Jennifer St. Giles knows how to write a compelling book that keeps readers turning the pages. Her writing keeps her on the bestsellers list, and it might just keep her on the FBI watch list.

Who do you think is the most important character in a romance?

Is it the hero?

Is it the heroine?

Can it be both?

Should it be both? Without both of them, it wouldn’t be a romance, right?

If You Hear Her is the first book in my romantic suspense trilogy…followed by If You See Her and If You Know Her, releasing this winter.

If You Hear Her kicks off the trilogy and it all starts because of something that Lena hears…she hears screams. So does the story belong to Lena? But Lena isn’t much needing to discover anything about herself. Ezra has to figure some stuff out, though—that’s my hero. So is it his story?

Do you find yourself connecting more to the hero, more to the heroine? Does it depend on the book? For me, that’s the answer—it depends on the story, on what’s happening, who it’s happening to, how it affects them, who the reader connects to.

In this book, I’d say I connected with Lena…and her friend, Law. So I guess, for me, it was Lena’s story.

If you’d like to read more about her story, I’ve got a nice long excerpt on my site and you can read about the other two books in the Ash Trilogy as well, plus check out the wallpapers for the series and the contest that’s going on for the next couple of weeks.

And You Thought That Your Teen Years Were Hard…

My Lunatic Life by Sharon Sala

Being a teenager is complicated enough for the average human being. The continued (and seemingly endless) demands of school, mounting social pressures, dating—it tends to be a lot for a person to handle. If only Tara Luna’s life were so simple…
…In addition to these ordinary adolescent concerns, Tara has special problems, unless of course you consider seeing dead people and hearing the thoughts of others a great advantage in life. And you might assume that such powers would be beneficial, but before you jump to conclusions, let us take a practical look at Tara’s circumstance. Going out on a date with a fellow has just become more complicated, since, as a psychic, Tara can read his thoughts. Believe me when I say that it does not serve her as well as you might imagine. Seeing ghosts would not be so terrible, but conversations with what those (ordinary people) around you perceive as nothingness tend to convince others that a mental problem is at work. Of course, there are also ghosts that tend to pester her for favors, but at least Tara has the help and friendship of Henry and Millicent, two spirits that follow her wherever she and her Uncle Pat may go. And they move everywhere, owing to her uncle’s “gypsy heart” and his inability to stay settled in one place for any great duration of time. She follows because he is the only family Tara has.
Now that Tara is in a new school, fresh challenges rise to the surface of her life, like the popular and prissy young ladies (in all seriousness, one of them is named Prissy) who are determined to make her life miserable. Fortunately, she has the support of her new boyfriend, Flynn, who is as much of an outcast as she is. But her biggest problem is the dark spirit making demands from Tara and threatening harm and hell if she refuses to assist. The ghost wants her mysterious murder solved and knows that Tara can help. And when a student at her school disappears, Tara realizes that she may be the only one who can solve the case before time runs out. What will it take? Welcome to Tara’s lunatic life.
My Lunatic Life is a new novel from highly-acclaimed author Sharon Sala. It serves as the basis for a new series from Sala that will detail the course of Tara’s adolescence as she struggles to maintain sanity in the midst of both ordinary and extraordinary pressures. Sala specializes in romance and suspense, but this particular piece is classified as paranormal mystery for young adult audiences. Tara is an endearing and somehow familiar character with enough dimension to make this a very worthwhile read for fans of young adult fiction. The story engages with its elements of verisimilitude and the paranormal, which form a good blend in this context.

As If High School Were Not Difficult Enough…

0

The life of the average teenager is far from easy, but for Tara Luna the complications might seem overwhelming. After all, as a psychic, she can read the thoughts of others, which makes dating an insurmountable challenge (what with all of those gross thoughts in boy’s heads). Also, she can see and interact with spirits. If you ever want to seem crazy, try talking to a “person” whom only you perceive. For the record, that usually leads to a diagnosis of schizophrenia. However, Tara is fortunate in a number of ways—she has the love of her Uncle Pat, the only family she knows at this point, and the protection of her two best friends, Henry and Millicent, who happen to be ghosts. And at her new school Tara has Flynn, her new boyfriend who is as much of an outcast as she is. Of course, she must deal with more popular “mean girls” who are hellbent on making her life miserable, but it comes with the territory of adolescence. Now, unfortunately for Tara, a new problem has surfaced, one that is less than typical for the average teen—a dark spirit demands Tara’s assistance in solving the case of her mysterious murder, and if she thinks that Prissy and her popular female cronies are capable of bringing her hell, just wait until she recognizes the potential of this ghost to make her life a nightmare. Then, to add to the drama, a girl from school disappears, and it seems like Tara is the only one who can find her. Time is short, and who knows what it will take. Welcome to Tara’s lunatic life…
…My Lunatic Life is the new novel from award-winning, highly-acclaimed author Sharon Sala, who is a specialist in both romance and suspense genres. This new series, which details the extraordinary life of Tara Luna, is of a more paranormal sort and perfect for avid readers of young adult fiction with a more supernatural nature. My Lunatic Life marks the start of this YA paranormal mystery series and of Tara’s adventures in her complicated and challenging world. Look for My Lunatic Life by Sharon Sala, in bookstores everywhere. Cincinnati, OH

Legendary comic book icon, publisher, and American treasure, Stan Lee is teaming with 1821 Comics to launch a new “multi-platform imprint for children called Stan Lee’s Kids Universe.”

The whole idea is to give them the kind of stories that they haven’t read before that they can easily understand and relate to,” Lee said. “While we want these to be reasonably educational and good for kids — that goes without saying — but our main purpose to be entertaining … kids have a great sense of humor if you can reach them the right way.”

The comics will feature among others: The Fuzz Posse, a group of police dogs, and Reggie the Veggie Crocodile who likes — veggies! These are sure to be a hit with kids and parents!
