Sneak Peek: WICKED RIDE by Rebecca Zanetti

0

Wicked Ride-RAZ coverIf you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks…

Excerpt from WICKED RIDE:

Kellach Dunne held his fire and turned the corner, keeping his prey in sight. Rain smattered the concrete sidewalk in a weary Seattle fashion, while garish lights from bars and massage parlors marred the comforting darkness of the midnight hour. He stepped over the legs of a bum and ignored the stench of piss, absently wishing for his bed and a good night’s sleep.

He’d left his Harley parked in a side alley to follow the bastard who stalked a woman through the city’s underbelly.

The woman scurried ahead, glancing over her shoulder, her instincts obviously kicking in. Her tight neon blue mini-dress hampered her movements, but he could appreciate the outfit—the kind that curved in just under the ass. The woman had a hell of an ass.

Too bad she tottered in five-inch heels and from what smelled like Fireball whiskey.

He opened his senses to the night and the universe, scenting what humans couldn’t even imagine. Yep. Fireball and tequila. Dangerous combination. Although a lingering smell, just under the surface, sped up his blood.

Woman. Fresh and clean … all woman.

The man ahead of him stank of body odor, dime store cologne, and cigarette smoke. And something else, something that made Kellach’s temples pound.

Damn it, hells fire, and motherfucker. The bastard had taken the drug. The human had somehow ingested the drug right under Kell’s nose.

Kell had hung out in the Seattle underground bar for nearly a week, and somehow, the dealer had gotten past him. No wonder the foul smelling human was hunting the woman. He wouldn’t be able to help himself.

She broke into a run, surprisingly agile on the heels. As she reacted to the imminent danger, she leaped over a mud puddle and turned down a barely lit alley.

Why the fuck did they always run down an alley? Shaking his head, Kellach increased his strides while the human male in front of him did the same. Idiot didn’t even know Kellach tracked him.

Dim light from the upper apartments filtered down through the fog to barely light the way, although Kell could see fine in the dark. The woman ran by two overflowing dumpsters, a couple garbage cans, a cardboard box housing a vagrant smelling like marijuana, and an odd arrangement of yellow flower pots perched on the back stoop of a porn shop. She reached the end of the alley blocked by a brick building and whirled around.

Gorgeous. Meager light shone down, highlighting a stunning face. Even with a ridiculous amount of blue eye shadow, pink blush, and bright red lipstick, she was a looker. Deep blue eyes, the color of the witching hour, stared out from a fine-boned face.

A woman like that not only didn’t belong in a fucking alley … she didn’t belong in the bar she’d just left.

Sun, Moon and Stars By Pamela Kelt

The story behind a new seasonal quartet

For the past few months, I’ve been preoccupied by the Earth’s solstices and equinoxes.

It all started with a challenge to write a Christmas ghost story. Admittedly, this was nearly 20 years ago, but good ideas have no sell-by date.

Last winter, I was dog-walking and it was so unusually cold that lakes, ponds and even rivers had frozen over. It was fascinating to see how my usual haunts were transformed. So, instead of a Yuletide them, I decided to set a tale during the winter solstice – and indulge my inner druid.

A Walk in the Park is an Edwardian tale, featuring a ghostly encounter resulting from a fissure in time and place. The setting is realDSCF2197 enough, for it takes place Hesketh Park, a classic Victorian labyrinth of paths, promenades and pseudo-grottoes, greenhouses and a lake. I used to go there a great deal when I was growing up in Southport, and it was terrific fun making it scary. I actually gave myself nightmares! It’s free on Smashwords, as are the two sequels.

Spring came around and it was time for a sequel. The second story was inspired by a trip in early March when my husband took a day off and whisked me out to Hampton Lucy, a charming Warwickshire village dominated by a magnificent piece of ecclesiastical architecture …

cover_LastSpringIn the churchyard was a poignant gravestone and above, sinister gargoyles grimaced from on high … And so Last Spring evolved. The characters just seemed to be from the 1920s, so why not? It evolved into a post-war parable of the paranormal.

Summer solstice is a well-honoured tradition in many cultures, but the quintessential image for most is Stone Henge. However, last summer I had the good fortune to take a trip to see the ancient stones and monuments of Kilmartin Glen with my daughter, a History of Art student who has developed an DSCF4082interest in the subject. Our favourite site was Temple Wood, an intriguing stone circle in a magical place even if your name doesn’t have Celtic origins. So, Midsummer Glen is title number three, an apocalyptic tale  of what could happen when ancient myths intersect with modern realities. Still in keeping with my penchant for historical fiction, the timeline has now moved into the 1930s – the June in 1939, to be precise, on the eve of the phoney war.

The main character is a tribute to my late father, who really did work as a hedge-cutter one vacation in Dumfriesshire. He studied geography, rather than geology, and lost a brother when he was very young. Some of the classical references in the story are also cover_MidsummerGlenreal, but I have taken some mischievous liberties. My next and final task is to conclude with the fourth and final insta;lment for the autumnal equinox.

The only clue I can offer at present is that a parallel theme of the four elements runs through the stories. I’ve covered water, air and earth in that order in the first three. So, all that’s left is … fire.

Kensington Announces New Imprints

0

kensTwo new digital imprints have just been launched by Kensington Publishing Corp. The announcement was made at the recent Romantic Times Book Convention in Dallas.

Lyrical Shine will feature contemporary romance and Lyrical Underground will acquire thriller, mystery and horror manuscripts. Both of the new imprints will be part of Kensington’s Lyrical Press division.

Associate director of social media and digital sales Alexandra Nicolajsen said Kensington’s press release: “When Kensington brought Lyrical into our community of imprints, we were excited to work with a new group of authors and expand our footprint in the digital publishing community. In a little over a year, we have acquired many compelling projects, and built new bestselling authors. The new Lyrical Shine and Underground imprints represent our commitment to diversifying the Lyrical list. Most importantly they create a program that will distinguish our authors and bring the most original stories to our readers.”

Authors interested in submitting work can find details here.

Kindle Unlimited Changes May Not be Not Author Friendly

0

ammAmazon has just rolled out it’s new Kindle Unlimited program changes that will take effect on July 1.

Under the current program, Kindle Unlimited subscribers/readers can borrow books via a subscription program. Authors are then paid a percentage (less than an actual sale of the book) but a small percentage. Under this new program that would end. While Amazon will still get their subscription payments from readers enrolled in the program, authors could be waiting a long time for royalty checks. Under the new guidelines, if readers do not open and read the book they’ve downloaded as part of their subscription to Kindle Unlimited, there will be no payment made to the author.

These new rules will likely see many authors opting out of the popular lending program. Readers will have fewer titles to ‘borrow’, and authors will have another venue for finding new readers closed.

Amazon said in their press release regarding these changes: “We’re making this switch in response to great feedback we received from authors who asked us to better align payout with the length of books and how much customers read. Under the new payment method, you’ll be paid for each page individual customers read of your book, the first time they read it.”

Highlights of the new changes:

  • Borrows will be displayed as PAGES instead of BORROWS. The number of will appear on the report where the “borrow” appears now. Authors will not be shown the number of borrowers of a particular title, only the number of pages read in each one.
  • Pages read will be shown as they are read and synced, authors will get paid for those during the next payment period.
  • Page averages will be done using the new “KENPC” system beginning July 1.
  • An author will only get paid for pages that are read once. If a reader goes back to re-read a page, it does not count.
  • When a reader borrows, the sales rank does goes up, If the reader does not open and read the book, the author will not get paid.
  • Authors will now be offered the opportunity to opt out of Kindle Unlimited, without the 90-day restriction period.

DETAILS FROM AMAZONS WEBSITE

Kindle Unlimited Pages Read

Beginning July 1, 2015, we’ll switch from paying Kindle Unlimited (KU) and Kindle Owners’ Lending Library (KOLL) royalties based on qualified borrows, to paying based on the number of pages read. We’re making this switch in response to great feedback we received from authors who asked us to better align payout with the length of books and how much customers read. Under the new payment method, you’ll be paid for each page individual customers read of your book, the first time they read it.Royalty payments under the new program

As with our current approach, we’ll continue to set a KDP Select Global Fund each month. Under the new payment method, the amount an author earns will be determined by their share of total pages read instead of their share of total qualified borrows.

Here are some examples of how it would work if the fund was $10M and 100,000,000 total pages were read in the month:

  • The author of a 100 page book that was borrowed and read completely 100 times would earn $1,000 ($10 million multiplied by 10,000 pages for this author divided by 100,000,000 total pages).
  • The author of a 200 page book that was borrowed and read completely 100 times would earn $2,000 ($10 million multiplied by 20,000 pages for this author divided by 100,000,000 total pages).
  • The author of a 200 page book that was borrowed 100 times but only read halfway through on average would earn $1,000 ($10 million multiplied by 10,000 pages for this author divided by 100,000,000 total pages).

We will similarly change the way we pay KDP Select All-Star bonuses which will be awarded to authors and titles based on total KU and KOLL pages read.

You can enroll in KDP Select at any time by visiting your Bookshelf. If you no longer want your book(s) to be included in KDP Select you may unenroll from the program bycontacting us with the ASIN of the book you would like to remove.

Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count (KENPC v1.0)

To determine a book’s page count in a way that works across genres and devices, we’ve developed the Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count (KENPC). We calculate KENPC based on standard settings (e.g. font, line height, line spacing, etc.), and we’ll use KENPC to measure the number of pages customers read in your book, starting with the Start Reading Location (SRL) to the end of your book. Amazon typically sets SRL at chapter 1 so readers can start reading the core content of your book as soon as they open it.

This standardized approach allows us to identify pages in a way that works across genres and devices. Non-text elements within books including images, charts and graphs will count toward a book’s KENPC.

When we make this change on July 1, 2015, you’ll be able to see your book’s KENPC listed on the “Promote and Advertise” page in your Bookshelf, and we’ll report on total pages read on your Sales Dashboard report. Because it’s based on default settings, KENPC may vary from page counts listed on your Amazon detail page, which are derived from other sources.

Reporting

After this change, you’ll be able to view your Kindle Unlimited (KU) and Kindle Owners’ Lending Library (KOLL) Pages Read in your Sales Dashboard report by marketplace and title.

We’ll continue to update this Help page with more information on your KDP reports, KU/KOLL royalties, and KDP Select Global Fund payouts as the changes roll out.

Recap: Lori Foster’s Reader/Author Get Together (#RAGT15)

0

Lori-book-fair-roomThis was the 11th year for Lori Foster’s Reader/Author Get Together.

The event began rather small and slow, with bestselling author Lori Foster wanting to create an informal conference where readers and authors could meet, laugh, dine and mingle. It has become one of the premier book events in the U.S. Just minutes after registration opens the event is sold out and many readers and authors (they register separately) are relegated to a waiting list. You must truly be fast with the ‘mouse’ to get into this event. It is truly worth hovering over your computer on registration day.

Authors and publishers sponsor meals, boardrooms and events thereby keeping the cost to readers at a meager $50. While many 5-authors-signingreaders come to rub elbows with their favorite authors, it also provides an opportunity to find new ones. Two book signings, one on Friday that features primarily small publishers and indie authors, and one on Saturday that highlights more traditionally published authors. The book signings do not require registration and are open to the public, so if you didn’t get registered you can still meet and talk with your favorite authors.

Each year there are a myriad of things to do. This year there was a Wizard of Oz party, a Trivia Party, a Blogger Lounge, publisher boardrooms brimming with swag, books and authors, and editors taking pitches for those who long to enter the world of writing. All of this in a relaxed, laid back atmosphere. If you want to dress for an event, great. If you didn’t no problem.

FullSizeRender (37)

FullSizeRender (36)Each attendee received a “Goodie Bag” heavy with books, ebook coupons, and swag. Newbies (first time attendees) received their own bag of goodies to help introduce them to some of the authors attending. They also were entered into a “Newbies Only” raffle where two huge baskets of books and goodies were given out to lucky winners.

The raffle baskets donated by authors, publishers and individuals numbered well over one hundred and they were a-m-a-z-i-n-g! The money raised by the sale of raffle tickets and books goes to support several local charities. The amount raised??? Drum roll……..

Animal Adoption Foundation – $2,250
Conductive Learning Center – $3,000
Deployed Troop Project – $1200
One Way Farm$21,000

Please click on the links above to find out more about these amazing charities, and if you are able, consider making a donation.

Thanks to Lori Foster and all the volunteers, sponsors for another amazing event.

STEPHEN KING’S DRUNKEN FIREWORKS TO BE AN AUDIO PUBLISHING EVENT

drunkThis July, CBS radio stations in conjunction with Simon and Schuster Audio and Play. It, will present an audio/online event featuring Stephen King’s bestselling novel, Drunken Fireworks.

Here are details from their press release:

In an innovative and exciting collaboration, Simon & Schuster Audio and Play.it® will share in its entirety a stream of Stephen King’s forthcoming audiobook short story DRUNKEN FIREWORKS for listeners nationwide. CBS RADIO stations in more than 20 major markets across the country will drive tune-in to the special event on which takes place July 2nd . Play.it® is an on-demand audio platform recently launched by CBS RADIO and CBS Local Digital Media. “Great stories are often better when told out loud,” said King. “This event is a cool way for more people to discover just how fun listening to my stories can be.” Simon & Schuster Audio’s standalone publication of Stephen King’s never-before released short story will be read by beloved Maine humorist Tim Sample. DRUNKEN FIREWORKS will be released exclusively as an audiobook on CD and for download on June 30, 2015. “Stephen King has always been a huge supporter of audiobooks and has embraced innovative marketing ideas for his books,” said Chris Lynch, President & Publisher, Simon & Schuster Audio. “We are delighted to collaborate with our colleagues at Play.it® and CBS Radio to again break new ground with this audio publishing event.” In addition, Simon & Schuster Audio will launch a pre-publication sweepstakes featuring DRUNKEN FIREWORKS in June, which will include a travel voucher for a trip to see the annual July 4th fireworks show in New York, a complete collection of Stephen King’s Simon & Schuster Audio recordings, plus additional prizes. The sweepstakes will reach millions of fans through the Simon & Schuster, CBS, and Stephen King sites and social media accounts. King hand-picked Tim Sample to voice this compelling short tale about a salt-of-the earth Maine native and a friendly annual summer fireworks rivalry that gradually spirals out of control. Sample, known for his Maine accent and pride, is a former CBS News Sunday Morning correspondent who produced the popular “Postcards from Maine” segments for over a decade. With his unique brand of storytelling, he is perfectly cast in DRUNKEN FIREWORKS. “I’m excited and thrilled to be working with Tim Sample again,” said King. “This is going to be one wild ride.” “Getting a call from Stephen King, especially when he’s totally pumped about some new project, is a bit like hopping a crosstown bus only to find yourself suddenly speeding along on a high-speed bullet train. The man is simply a force of nature,” said Sample. “This time around Steve’s ‘bullet train’ turns out to be a story called DRUNKEN FIREWORKS and while it’s not the first Stephen King story I’ve had the privilege of narrating, it’s certainly the funniest. Stephen King? Funny? You heard right chummy!” DRUNKEN FIREWORKS will be published as one of the short stories in Stephen King’s collection THE BAZAAR OF BAD DREAMS, coming from Simon & Schuster Audio and Scribner in November 2015.

I chatted with Kennedy this evening about her latest novel, Igniting Passion, Book 3 in the Red Starr Series.

Igniting PassionBook Blurb:

Risking everything…
Aaron “Stick” Scott spent twelve years of his life protecting his country. He diffused well over fifteen hundred bombs during the course of his military career, expecting each one to be his last. Luck had a huge part in his survival but it was fate that had a laugh at his expense by having a woman shatter his heart.

Playing it safe…

Simone Laurent’s career as a cultural attaché wasn’t exciting by any means, but she did love promoting the culture of her homeland. What she hadn’t anticipated was getting caught up in political war where her life would be at risk. Her situation goes from bad to worse when the man she left behind is the only one who can save her.

Igniting Passion…

Stick’s hostage rescue mission becomes sidetracked when he’s ordered to protect the one woman who couldn’t handle his job. Seeing her in the light of day brings back memories they’d both rather soon forget, but it’s the long evenings together that lights a fuse neither one can ignore. Will their reignited passion survive the highly explosive danger that’s coming their way?

Series Description: Red Starr HRT is a paramilitary hostage rescue team that was originally formed years ago by two retired Marine Master Sergeants. Upon the death of Catori Starr’s husband, Brendan “Red” O’Neill, she took a much needed hiatus to deal with her guilt and all consuming grief. Two years later Starr is clawing her way back and ready to lead a fresh team of five cherry-picked former Force Recon Marines. Red Starr HRT takes cases the FBI and other agencies won’t touch, from domestic assignments bordering on the grey edges to missions abroad against savage terrorist regimes. Follow along as Kennedy Layne conveys each of their stories as they work together on high risk rescues that lead them down perilous paths of passion, intrigue and suspense…

Great Romantic Suspense!

Sneak Peek: ONLY MARRIAGE WILL DO by Jenna Jaxon

0

Marriage 2Only Marriage Will Do by Jenna Jaxon

Not every happy-ever-after begins at “I do.”

When the hero of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the man claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love.  But is she free to marry him?  Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero, Captain Amiable Dawson, to escort her to her family estate, hoping that along the way she can win his love.

Amiable is charmed by the sweet, beautiful woman he rescued, and although he has grave reservations about her marital status, he allows himself to be swept up into Juliet’s romantic spell and the promise of a happy-ever-after.

The spell breaks when legal questions arise and Juliet faces the horror of not knowing if she is married to her knight in shining armor or the cruel viscount who is determined to have her at any price.

EXCERPT:

“I apologize for interrupting your bath, my lady.” Amiable lumbered to his feet. He nodded to the tub, keeping his gaze on it rather than her. “I will retire to my room now. I believe it is across the hall, two doors down on the right. If you have further need of me this evening, please send Glynis for me.” He bowed and strode toward the door.

“You did not interrupt my bath, Captain Dawson,” Juliet whispered as he opened door.

He turned and raked his gaze over her for a long moment. “More’s the pity, Lady Juliet.” He cursed, clutched the door latch then jerked it open and left.

How odd men acted sometimes. Still, he had followed her to the White Hart Inn. That mattered most of all. She crossed to the tub. Idly, she dipped her hand in and trailed her fingers through the exquisitely warm water. Perfect. The whole evening’s encounter had been perfect. Although if Amiable had arrived a mere ten minutes later…

“More’s the pity,” she whispered. A blast of heat began in her face and spread until even her toes had turned red. She doffed her night rail and climbed into the tub. Best have another reason for her bright hue should Glynis reappear.

* * * *

Amiable strode into his room, shut the door and sagged against it. His only hope of staying upright.

“Why the devil did I say that?” Remembering her comely figure in a sheer nightgown beside the waiting bath, he closed his eyes. His groin stirred. He’d come to be her protector, not her debaucher. Still, images of Juliet, warm and wet and naked in that tub had popped into his head as he’d sat not two feet from her.

Unthinkable. Thank God, he’d left her chamber before temptation became too great.

Yet now, just down the hall, she would be sitting, relaxed in that tub, her shining hair piled haphazardly on her head, tendrils and wisps escaping to form a halo around her face. Her milky white complexion turned rosy by hot water, a deeper rose perhaps at the tips of breasts barely touching the water. Breasts that would feel soft and smooth beneath his fingers when he…

“Christ.” He tore at his cravat, doffed jacket, waistcoat and shirt in quick order, then up-ended the whole pitcher of cool washing water over his head. Regrettably, it lacked the icy sting needed to break the spell his charming charge had woven around him. A freezing creek or a chilly spring would be more effective, but he’d have to settle for this tepid water and a little discipline.

The problem was he hadn’t had company in his bed for more than two months because of the voyage from Virginia. So any woman would affect him thusly. The argument did not persuade him in the least. Something about Lady Juliet called to both his noble nature and his baser needs. A dangerous combination for a man in need of a wife.

After he stripped off the rest of his clothes, he continued his vigorous washing then toweled himself dry. Not much effort needed there, with the night so uncomfortably warm. He pulled the covers all the way down and lay naked on top of the sheets, willing his mind and his aroused body to desist. It took a devilishly long time to do so.

In the flickering light of the room’s one candle, Amiable stared at the ceiling, hoping that coming to the aid of this damsel in distress hadn’t been the worst mistake of his life.

Special Event: Reader’s Entertainment Radio Show Presents: Lucy Monroe

0

I had a great time chatting with USA Today bestseller and award winning Lucy Monroe tonight. It was fun learning more about her latest novel, Wild Heat, Book One in The Northern Fire Series, the small, Alaskan town of Cailkirn, and of course its memorable residents! I’m reading Wild Heat now, and I’m glued to my Kindle!!

With more than 6 million copies of her books in print, Lucy Monroe has published more than 70 books and had her stories translated for sale in dozens of countries. While she writes several subgenres of romance (paranormal, historical, single title and short contemporary) for multiple publishers, all of her books are sexy, emotional and show that love will conquer all. Lucy wrote more than one million words of romantic fiction before selling her 13th manuscript to Harlequin Presents. Since then, Lucy has hit national bestsellers lists in England and the U.S..  Whether it’s a passionate Harlequin Presents, a sexy romantic suspense for Kensington Brava or a steamy historical-paranormal for Berkley Sensation, Lucy’s books transport her readers to a special place where the heart rules and love conquers all.

Wild HeatSometimes old flames are the hottest of all . . .

In the quaint little town of Cailkirn, Alaska, it’s impossible to keep a secret, especially one as juicy as the unexpected return of Kitty Grant. Tack MacKinnon remembers her wild red curls and even wilder spirit-and still feels the sting from when she shattered his heart in college. But there’s a pain in Kitty’s gorgeous eyes that guts him to the core and Tack is determined to do whatever it takes to see the woman he still loves smile again-even if it means taking on her demons as his own.

After fleeing an abusive ex-husband, Kitty decides that the best way to heal her broken heart is to come back home. But she gets a whole new shock when she sees how undeniably sexy Tack has become. More handsome, more muscular, more charming-more everything-he’s impossible to resist. Before she knows it, they’re reigniting sparks that could set the whole state of Alaska on fire. Yet trust doesn’t come easy to Kitty anymore, and as things heat up between her and Tack, she can’t help but wonder if one of them is going to get burned . . .

Sneak Peek: Forgiven Haven House Vampires, book 3 by Megan Slayer

0
Portrait of confident young man wearing white shirt against blacTwo gruff vampires are an unlucky source of second chances, but they’re all Landon has left.
Landon has been a very bad man and done some awful things. He doesn’t believe he’s worthy of redemption or forgiveness. He lives on the streets and turns tricks in order to survive. He’s not happy, but he’s alive — then he meets two vampires ready and willing to rock his world. Micah and Ivan aren’t the nicest guys. Before they were turned, they scared people. But Landon isn’t afraid of them. Will the flawed human allow the two gruff vampires to show him the best time of his life, or will the forces trying to keep them all apart win?Link: http://changelingpress.com/product.php?&upt=book&ubid=2377

EXCERPT:

Landon read the address once more. Twelve twenty-seven Park Avenue. Not exactly the ritzy part of town. Then again, vampires didn’t have to live in classy digs — not above ground anyway. He groaned. All the practice to become a decent stripper only to end up with his first gig at the damned Haven House.

But he needed the money. He rang the doorbell. “Come on. Someone answer.” Don’t leave me out here this long.

He rubbed his bare arms and glanced around. No one on the street and no lights on. God, the place was creepy. But he owed a debt to the vampires, and he wouldn’t get the money repaid if he didn’t do as told. Unfortunately for him, that meant prostituting himself.

He still hadn’t wrapped his mind around how his life had changed. Less than a year before, he was a simple college student. Then the vampires came to power. Andreas, bent on finding his counterpart, killed so many women until he found the one he believed could bring him ultimate power.

Andreas had entrusted Landon with bringing Daisy in. Thankfully, she hadn’t given in to the evil vampire or her friend. With the help of her vampire protector, Julian, she’d killed Andreas. But she’d also unintentionally forced Landon into servitude. He owed the vampires a hefty debt. Julian wasn’t collecting, but Terrence expected full payment.

He pressed the doorbell again. What was taking the vampires so long? They had super hearing powers and a heightened sense of smell. Didn’t they already know he was there?

The door opened and a figure emerged from the shadows. “Took you long enough. In.”

Landon hesitated, but the person yanked him forward. His heart hammered. At least he still had a heart. The vampires didn’t. They lost the need to breathe and have a heartbeat when they were turned. He suppressed a chuckle. Some of the vampires decided to become creatures of the night, but some didn’t. Why that made him laugh, he wasn’t sure.

“We’ve been waiting for you,” the man said. He clasped his cold hand around the back of Landon’s neck. “You’re the guest of honor.”

A couple of torches illuminated the space. In the dim light, he could barely see where the figure took him. A shiver ran up his spine. Guest of honor? No way. He was the main course. He’d never been to the bowels of Haven House before and wasn’t sure what to expect.

“The party has come to us, boys,” the figure shouted and opened a door. Light bathed the hallway and catcalls came from the room. “Do your thing when you’re ready.” The figure left him alone in the hallway. The walls sparkled.

Stainless steel? Metal? Who had metal walls?

“Come on, boy. Show us what you’ve got,” the man said. He disappeared into the crowd of other men in the room.

I can do this. Landon stepped into the light. The clients wanted a man in business attire. If he played his cards right and appealed to the vampires, he might make enough to pay off his debt that night.

“Music?” He held up the small mp3 player. “I need tunes before I can strip.”

“We oughta peel the shit from you,” a hulking vampire said. He glared at Landon. “Ain’t nothin’ to him. I thought you said we were getting a man, not a boy.”

I’m twenty-five. Landon didn’t dare argue with the vampires. He was one human among at least fourteen vamps. Either dancing for them would be the craziest thing he could do, or lead to the hottest time of his life. He’d take both.

One of the men — a tall, brooding one with long black hair and an open suit coat with no shirt underneath — strode up to him. “Give it here.” He didn’t grab the player from Landon but rather gently removed it from Landon’s hand. “I’ll plug it in.” He nodded to the middle of the room. “Dance.”

Landon murmured a thank you, then strode to the assigned spot on the carpet. He smoothed his hand along the back of his head until his fingertips touched the brim of his hat. When the music started, he knocked the hat forward and obscured his view. He wriggled his hips and turned around, then popped the hat from his head. He whipped around again and dropped to his knees…

About the Author:
0WendiI love storytelling and weaving images with words. There’s something magical about a happily-ever-after that draws me to a story. Be it spicy and suspense-filled or lusty hot and bothered, I’m game for a good book.I’m still learning and growing and I hope you’ll join me. It’s been a crazy ride, but it’s totally worth it.
